RECOGNIZING ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

The Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society is currently inviting into membership students who earned a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA during their first year in college.  To those of you receiving these invitations, Congratulations!

For
everyone in our campuswide network of residential learning communities, here's an especially helpful heads-up from Phi Eta Sigma's advisor, Chris Boyd:

If you're curious about the range of academic honor societies that Florida State approves, simply go to http://honorsocieties.fsu.edu. As for invitations from groups who are not on this list, be cautious. Unfortunately, some students have paid good money for nothing more than a piece of paper saying they were in an "honor society."  Some students reject invitations to join distinguished groups that are on this list, http://honorsocieties.fsu.edu, simply because they can't tell if an inivtation they have received is from a legitimate organization.

If you have a question about academic honor societies, please check out that website -- and please feel free to contact either your academic advisor, or Chris Boyd, or your learning community's faculty director, or me.
